Second Life “Winter” Festival - good old ethnocentrism

December 5, 2007

Linden Lab have announced their fourth annual winter festival. I can’t resist making an obvious comment - who decided that a virtual world has seasons that match the US / Europe seasonal cycle?

Ethnocentrism at its very best. Bah humbug.

Generally, the people who make the program can do whatever they want, ’cause they’re God, y’know?
Besides…now you’ll get to know what normal seasons are like! bwwwAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! ahem…sorry…

    /me shrugs

SF, CA, USA based company, so they’re likely going ot mirror what they see outside their door. Likewise, I’m sure the Winter festival started when SL was largely a US thing.

Frankly, though, I’m not gonna get worked up one way or another. Genocide in Darfur or this, you know?

The reason that SL follows the European weather cycle is simple. Linden Labs is based in the United States. Nuf said.

*Yawn* What a non-issue. Change it into an event in July, and the other half of the population will complain. Hobson’s, really.
